Barbr is a startup based in London on a mission to revolutionise the barber industry. We're building a platform that empowers independent barbers to become successful entrepreneurs. We help them manage their bookings, attract new clients and boost their income.

We’re looking for a talented and passionate Django engineer to join our agile team and build features that will impact millions of people around the world (we are currently in 9 countries with 30k users and 100s of barbers).

Responsibilities

VERY IMPORTANT:

  1. Our backend is built using Django. You need past projects proving strong experience in building backend systems using django.
  2. We value honesty above everything else. Best to come clean about any disadvantages you have. If you are a great candidate, but miss some of the qualifications, be honest (we could work it out).
  3. We need someone who is able to work 7-10h per week for now (1d/week) and is open to increasing hours/becoming full time within the next 3-12 months.
  4. Salary range is PRO-RATED (starting hourly rate is $20-25ph)

Job Requirements

  1. Expert-level experience with python & django (4+ years)
  2. Strong portfolio of past projects
  3. Experience building products from scratch and/or being a solo developer (must have at least 1 of these)
  4. You must understand the core principles of building a good product (architecture, database design, documentation, code readability etc) and be able to demonstrate this with past projects
  5. Ability to communicate in well-written English, and spoken English good enough for audio calls.
  6. NOT looking for agency developers
  7. Ready to lead the backend development as we enter our next growth phase (if you do well, you will be offered a full-time position with equity within a year)

We’d PREFER someone with the following too:

  1. Someone who is customer-focused
  2. Previous startup experience
  3. Experience as a team lead
  4. Someone who cares about his craft, and practises it outside of work. If you have hobby projects, or open-source libraries, or other fun technical stuff, we'd love to hear about that :)
  5. Someone who tries to keep things simple and avoids overcomplicating (pragmatist)

Benefits:

  1. Flexible hours (must overlap at least 2 hours with GMT 9-5PM 2x per week)
  2. Strong room for career growth, opportunity to learn a lot and be a leader
  3. We will be looking to bring you on full time or move to increased hours within 6-12 months if you perform well (so only apply if your looking for a long-term thing)
  4. Exciting startup building cool things with a good working environment

IN YOUR COVER LETTER ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Tell me about 2 projects (max) that you are most proud of and why?
  2. Provide details/links about the project(s) where you worked as solo backend engineer and/or built a product from scratch (If this is same as previous answer just write 'SAME AS ABOVE')
  3. Record a 1-2 minute loom introducing yourself (IMPORTANT) and paste the link. Check instructions here - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-gJ9MapNNXaoPwzmkvwsUayFbbRiNLthzVkGXJ3q2k8/edit?usp=sharing
